Mike Tucker was an insurance agent who worked for a company that insured Jim Ferris and Ken Franklin for their writing partnership. The insurance deal stated that if one of the two men died, the other would be paid out a sum of $25000. When Jim Ferris was murdered and Lieutenant Columbo was investigating the case, he contacted Mike Tucker and met him to discuss the affair. Mr Tucker assumed that Columbo was going to buy an insurance package for himself before the lieutenant clarified that the meeting regarded Ferris and Franklin. This made Tucker apprehensive as he wished not to violate confidentiality, but he cooperated and informed Columbo of the insurance package that Ken Franklin and Jim Ferris had once the lieutenant offered to get a court order. Throughout their conversation, Mr Tucker attempted to convince Columbo to buy one of the company's insurance packages for himself.
